Mona G. Tinsley, 82, of Andrews passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Odessa.

Mona was born on March 20, 1935 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Cecil Voliver Tinsley and Claudia Elizabeth Bright Tinsley. She was raised in Hugo and graduated from Hugo High School in 1953. While in high school, she was a 4-year cheerleader and was voted Queen of her Senior class. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma with her Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Economics and Education, where she was President of ECHESA Sorority. She graduated with her Master’s Degree in Counseling from East Texas State College in Commerce. She moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma for her first teaching job and coached P.E. She moved to Andrews in 1962, where she worked as a teacher and counselor for 43 years for Andrews Independent School District. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially going to Oklahoma to visit her sister. She was very friendly, talkative, and knew many people. She enjoyed her dogs, fishing, all types of sports, and was raised a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mona is survived by her sister, Sherrie Kay Tinsley of Marlow, Oklahoma and many friends and students she taught or counseled over the years.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Boys Town, and the AISD Educational Foundation.
