Condolence: I was VERY lucky to have had this amazing teacher who made my kindergarten year memorable and positive. Through her passion in the creativity in plays and holiday programs we did in the classroom, small reading groups, I was able to escape the ugly reality of a divorce between my parents during that year. Thank you Mrs. "Downey" for a stellar education. May you rest in peace.

Condolence: Mrs. Downing was our kindergarten teacher. My twin sister and I were one of a couple of sets of twins in her kindergarten class. She obviously had the patience of a saint to deal with that many twins at one time!! So sorry for you loss. Prayers to her family.

Condolence: LaNell and I were grade school friends in Denton...then we met again in college where both of us were in Education. In 1956 we were among the horde of teachers hired by AISD.We were fortunate to live in Russell Austins new duplex. The four of novices at being out on our own, quickly made friends with many of the repairmen in Andrews. And of course , a few single men noticed the pretty newcomers. Two years after we moved in as single teachers, all of us were finding new residences with those lucky and handsome young men. What wonderful memories I have of Johnnie and LaNell! They were always upbeat and were the life of the party. Soon we all began with our children and I and my family moved up to Denver City.Through all those years we have kept in contact. I have a heavy heart because of losing this life long friend, but I know what a wonderful Christian she was and she now has a wonderful heavenly home where she is awaiting for us to join her.

Condolence: Mrs Downing was one of the best teachers,loving woman and a faithful Christian. She taught are son when was going through an severe illness. She cared for him as her own. She made sure he kept up and came to the house when he could not come to school He graduated and went to college and served in the Air Force and now is a very successful business man. Don and I owe her early teaching to his success. Thank you God for letting her serve some of the children in Andrews. Love the Don Hoffman family/

Condolence: I am sorry to hear about LaNell, she was a wonderful lady and I really enjoyed working with her at San Andres/Cinderella. She was so kind and patient with her students, I am happy that 3 of my nieces were in her Kindergarten class. She will be missed.

Condolence: Mrs. Downing is fondly remembered as my kindergarten teacher at Cinderella. I believe she was definitely one of the best teachers there was. She is one of the teachers who influenced me to become a teacher. She will be missed, but so fondly remembered by so many who were blessed by her love and teaching.
