Charlene Grissom McGinnis, 99, of Midland passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Midland.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at a graveside service at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Pools Cemetery in Richards, Texas with Pastor Floyd Hoke, Nephew, of Huntsville, Texas officiating. Charlene was born on November 17, 1918 in Montgomery County, Texas to Charlie Washington Grissom and Floy Gertrude Walker Grissom. She had been a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Richards, Texas, and she graduated from Richards High School in 1936. She married Joseph Clarence “J.C.” McGinnis on June 10, 1939 in Humble, Texas. Charlene was a homemaker until they moved to Andrews in 1961 from Oklahoma. While in Andrews, she had worked for Hulen’s Jewelry, Corner Drug, and retired from B. Williams and Sons. She was a member of the Easter Star, where she had served as Matron of Honor. She had been a member of the P.T.A. and the First Baptist Church. She moved to Midland in 2004 to be closer to family and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. She loved her home and enjoyed her yard and garden. She loved to cook, sew, quilt, and work on all types of crafts for her home. She enjoyed Christian music and quartets. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. on January 17, 2004, her parents, and 2 sisters, Daphna Floy Grissom Hoke and Olga Grissom Bay.
Charlene is survived by her 3 children, Jolene Brunson and husband, Glenn, of Richards, Al McGinnis of Richards, and Sherry Benton and husband, Ted, of Midland, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Union Grove Baptist Church and Pools Cemetery Association Fund.
