Robert Orson, 70, of Andrews passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Odessa.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Monday, December 18, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews. Interment will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery. Robert was born on February 5, 1947 in Tarzan, Texas to William Noel Orson and Bernell Maree Johnson Orson. He was raised in Tarzan, Stanton, Grady, and graduated from Midland High School in 1965. He graduated from electrician school, and received his union card. Being union, he would move where the work was. He moved to Andrews in 1972 and started Orson Electric until his retirement in 2000. He was married by his father, who was a Justice of the Peace, on December 29, 1988 at the Orson Ranch in Andrews to Loretta Jane Garland. He was very proud to be taking care of the Orson Ranch in Tarzan and Andrews, which turned over 100 years. He was well known for training apprentices and teaching them the electrical trade. He loved his pecan trees, gardening, canning, baking, and cooking. He enjoyed whistling 3 times to see his birds come out to see him. His family will remember him for his barbeque and his Orson beans. He was a hard worker, well respected, and loved his family deeply. He was known to many as “Poppi” and mentored and raised many kids. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Orson, and a brother, William “Billy” Orson, who passed away the day after Robert.
Robert is survived by his wife, Loretta Orson of Andrews; 2 sons, John “Scooter” Orson and wife, Jennifer, of Andrews and Kenneth Orson and wife, Cindy, of Andrews; 3 daughters, Kim Orson of Andrews, Pam Luther and husband, Glen, of San Angelo, and Christie Orson of Andrews; 1 stepson, James “Jimmy” Garland of Dowagiac, Michigan; 2 brothers, Trueman Orson and wife, Julie, of Columbia, Missouri and Brent Riordon of Hobbs, New Mexico; 1 sister, Tressa Bledsoe and husband, Joe, of Odessa; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.
