Brownie "Gab" Underwood
Brownie “Gab” Underwood, 72, of Odessa and longtime resident of Andrews, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 in Odessa.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 10:00 AM Monday, September 18, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Mickey Winter officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Cremation is under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. Brownie was born on December 26, 1944 in Gorman, Texas to Loy Leo Underwood and Vera Estelle Reeves Underwood. He was raised in Andrews and had worked on area ranches in Andrews throughout his childhood. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1963 and had worked as a barber in Andrews. He served in the Army National Guard of the United States from 1965 – 1971 during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Royce June Hobbs on April 30, 1971 in Andrews. He had retired after 18 years with the Andrews County Road and Bridge as a heavy equipment operator. He had worked 16 years for Amoco at the Midland Farms Plant. They moved to Odessa in 2017 to be close to family. He was a Baptist and was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joe Mac Underwood, and sister, Marjean Underwood.

Brownie will be remembered for collecting old antique cars and trucks, especially 1950’s models. He loved spending time at the coffee shop, collecting pocketknives, loved being around little children, and collecting friends along the way. He was considered a “best friend” to many that he met along the way, was a joy to be around, and loved to laugh and tell stories. He was self-taught in carpentry, woodwork, and being a mechanic. He loved to travel and camp with his wife, especially in Mayhill, New Mexico and Mason, Texas.

Brownie is survived by his wife, Royce Underwood of Odessa, 2 children, Cheryl Stribling and husband, Koy, of Odessa and Matt Temple and wife, Vicky, of Kingsford, Michigan, sister, Janye Finch and husband, Jack, of Gonzales, 6 grandchildren, Tyler Stribling and wife, Kara, Trevor Stribling and wife, Michelle, Natalie Stribling, Callie Stribling, Osten Temple, and Carly Temple, 4 great grandchildren, Keller Stribling, Presley Stribling, and “the twins” Harper and Berkley Stribling, sister in law, Grace Underwood of Andrews, niece, Sandy Underwood of Andrews, nephew, Kello Finch and wife, Jan, of Gonzales, and many other loved ones. He also loved his Schnauzer dogs, Mojo, Maggie, Mollie, and Dixie.
