Elvie Ray Hamilton
Elvie Ray Hamilton, 84, of Andrews passed away Friday, August 25, 2017, in Andrews.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life at 4:00 PM Monday, August 28, 2017, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Henson officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 27, 2017, from 4-6 pm at McNett Funeral Home. Please celebrate Elvie’s life by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.

Elvie Ray Hamilton was born in Electra, Texas, on March 11, 1933, to O.F. Hamilton and Edith Van Hoozer Hamilton. Their family moved to Andrews, Texas, in 1947. Elvie graduated from Andrews High School in 1953 and married his high school sweetheart, Billie Jean Mayfield, on September 3, 1954. He attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, and majored in geology. Elvie and Darrell Hamilton, his brother, worked with their dad in their oil field service and construction companies. In January 1963, Elvie formed his own company, Falcon Trucking Company, which was an oil field service trucking company specialized in hot oiler services. Elvie and Billie worked together in the company for 37 years until they sold the company and retired on January 3, 2000. After retirement, they enjoyed many wonderful years living between Andrews and Del Rio on Lake Amistad where they enjoyed fishing, being together, and many family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1961, father in 1976, and brother in 2013. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Billie Mayfield Hamilton of Andrews, daughters, Devi Hamilton Bruton and spouse, Herbie Bruton of Andrews, Dana Hamilton Worley and spouse, James Worley of Houston, and Pamela Hamilton West and spouse, Mark West of Houston; sister Linda Hamilton Holder and spouse, Ronnie Holder of Missouri City, sister-in-law, Duchess Hamilton of Tyler; eight grandchildren, Daniel Bruton of Houston, Dr. Brittany Bruton Myers and spouse, Brad Myers of College Station, Rachel Bruton Rushing and spouse, John Rushing of Fort Worth, Ryan Worley and Brooke Worley Burgess and spouse, Brad Burgess of Houston, Marci West, Jordan West and fiancée Ashley Mayfield, and Jansen West and spouse, Madisyn West of Houston. The one and only great grandchild is Kian Michael Burgess of Houston. Elvie is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Elvie loved his family and was very happy when all of his children and grandchildren gathered for weekends and holidays at the lake. Elvie had many hobbies and sporting activities in his lifetime. He raced cars, shot trap in competition, raised chinchillas and ostriches, hunted all sorts of elk, deer and birds, loved bass fishing and going to Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas. He made many life-long friends he met from school, through his business, and through his hobbies and sporting activities. He never met a stranger and was always gracious with his friends and family. Our loss is great, and he will truly be missed.
