Obituary for Billy B. Caffey

Billy B. Caffey
Billy B. Caffey, 94 of Andrews passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Friday, August 11, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Pastor Jason Curry and Pastor Jerry Bailey officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 – 8 PM at McNett Funeral Home. Please celebrate his life by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.

Bill was born on October 2, 1922 in Ballinger, Texas to Daulton Charles Caffey and Mable Burke Caffey. Bill was raised and attended schools in Rowena and Ballinger. The early part of his life, he worked on the family farm. He accepted Jesus Christ around the age of 12 and was baptized in the Concho River. He met his sweetheart, Ella Katherine Machann, who lived across the field when he was 19 years old and they were married on December 16, 1941 in Rowena. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force on October 29, 1942 during WWII and was discharged on November 29, 1945. They had ranched and farmed in their earlier years. They have lived in Victoria, Eldorado, San Antonio, New Braunfels, Ballinger, Rankin, Big Lake, Denver City, Sprayberry, Goldsmith, and moved to Andrews in 1977. He had worked for Phillips Pipeline Company from September 5, 1951 to January 1, 1985 and retired as a District Gauger. He had been a member and past-president of the Andrews Evening Lions Club, member of Phillips Philresters Club, and had served in the P.T.A. in Andrews. He had been a member of First Baptist Church for 40 years, where he had served as the Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School, and had served as the Church Treasurer. Bill and Ella loved to go fishing, dancing, play in their bowling league in Midland, camping, traveling in their RV, and spending time with their family; especially at the lake, where he liked to teach them how to ski and fish. He was known to not let you in the boat until you got up and could ski. He will be remembered by his family in that way; by always challenging them to not ever give up. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop tinkering, loved to work in his yard, and loved his family meals that Ella would cook. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Allen Caffey in 1967, and 5 brothers, Curtis O. Caffey, Arlie V. Caffey, Hugh D. Caffey, Chester L. Caffey, and Delbert A. Caffey.

Bill is survived by his wife, Ella Caffey of Andrews, daughter, Melissa Allen and husband, Tim, of Andrews, son, Billy G. Caffey and wife, Phyllis, of Lansing, North Carolina, sister, Camilla Jean Young of Center Point, and his 5 precious grandchildren, Travis, Risty and husband, Adam, Jeff, Chris, and Angela.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church, 201 NW 2nd Street, Andrews, Texas 79714 or PRMC Home Hospice, PO Box 2108, Andrews, Texas 79714.
