Obituary for Dell Nelson

Dell Nelson
Dell Nelson, 97, of Andrews passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017, in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 2:00 PM Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Andrews Church of Christ, 201 NW 2nd Street, in Andrews with Minister Leslie L. Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 – 5 PM at McNett Funeral Home. Please celebrate her life by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.

Dell was born on January 15, 1920 in Kokomo, Texas to Noble Jewel Hagar and Jessie May Rodgers Hagar. She was raised in Kokomo and graduated from Gorman High School in 1937. She married James Edward Nelson on September 25, 1937 in Gorman, and they moved to Andrews in 1946. She had worked for the Andrews Independent School District in the cafeteria for 15 years, and for J.J. Jewelry as a sales clerk for 11 years before her retirement. She considered her role in life was to be a woman of faith, a devoted wife to her husband, and the type of mother that supported her 3 sons throughout their life. She will be remembered for being at all her son’s sports and functions and easily recognizable as being in the house by her very loud voice of support. She had an enthusiastic sense of humor and a great laugh. She was a prankster, and at one time dressed up as an old lady and went shopping downtown in Andrews and acted like she was from Big Spring. She loved to shop, but was known to try everything on or touch everything as she went on her way and her home is known as the “knick knack shack”. She loved all the holidays, especially Christmas, and would decorate for every holiday and time of season. She was a great cook and will be remembered for her chicken fried steak, red beans, and sweet tea. She loved the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Texas A&M Aggies. She had served in the Pink Ladies Auxiliary and was a faithful member of the Andrews Church of Christ.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Jack and wife Serena Nelson of Andrews, Ted and wife Phillis Nelson of College Station, and Scotty Nelson of Andrews; 5 grandchildren, Max and wife Tanna Nelson of Plano, Randy and Linda Nelson of Andrews, Kelli and husband Dr. J.T. Egan of Gainesville, Jana and husband Scott Clark of Fort Worth, and Thad Nelson of College Station; 9 great grandchildren, Ingrid and husband Sheldon Haack of Denton, Luke Nelson of Plano, Nash Nelson of San Angelo, Noah Nelson of Fort Worth, Nantz Nelson of Fort Worth, Kara Grace Egan of Gainesville, Truett Egan of Gainesville, Jessie Madden Clark of Fort Worth, and Callen Clark of Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on November 14, 1978, and her sister, Johnnie Hagar.
