Viola was born on March 10, 1927 in Andrews to William “Bill” Alexander Harris and Vera McKinney Harris. She grew up in Andrews helping her family farm and ranch. She learned from her father how to trap coyotes, skunks, badgers, and anything else, so they could sell the skins. She spent time on a cattle drive and raising cattle and learning the “cowboy way” with her family in Camedo and San Antonio, New Mexico. She and her siblings learned to harvest cotton, maize, and corn and grow their own food and can vegetables on their farm in Andrews. She had learned at an early age to play the guitar. She was struck by lightning on May 25, 1944 and lost her hearing. She attended Andrews High School and was on the tennis team. She was not able to graduate, but went back and finished with her daughter in 1967. She met her husband, Ted Wolcott Page, after his discharge from the U.S. Army; while working at Smith’s Drug Store. They were married on December 12, 1945 in Lovington, New Mexico. They welcomed son, Roger, in 1946 and daughter, Barbara, in 1949. She had worked in the cafeteria for Andrews ISD for 25 years. She loved to cook for her family, knitting, crocheting, and playing dominoes with her siblings. She enjoyed woodworking and was one of the first girls allowed to take shop class at Andrews Schools. Ted and Viola enjoyed traveling for over 20 years in their RV after they had retired. She was a faithful member of the Andrews Church of Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on February 29, 2012, her grandson, Cody Clay, in 1975, and 2 sisters, Bernice Vandever and Margaret Stroud.

Viola is survived by her 1 son, Roger Page of Art, Texas, 1 daughter, Barbara Morgan of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, 1 granddaughter, Monica and Dennis Houston of Huachuca City, Arizona, and 1 great granddaughter, Gracie Paige Houston of Huachuca City, Arizona, 1 brother, J.W. and Geraldine Harris of Mabank, Texas, 6 sisters, LaRue Johnson of Comanche, Oklahoma, Martha Page of Denver, Colorado, Rosie Teakell of Andrews, Texas, Doris Chambers of Lampasas, Texas, Geneva and Alex Kutin of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nona and Rick Goolsby of Weimar, Texas.

Memorials may be directed to the Lubbock Children’s Home, 4404 Idalou Rd, Lubbock, TX 79403 or www.childshome.org.

Viola’s favorite scripture is Romans 16:16 and her advice would be to “Always forgive and forget.”
