Obituary for Donald Powers

Donald Powers
Donald Powers, 76, of Andrews passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Odessa.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 1:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Pastor Brant O’Connor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home. Please celebrate his life by visiting www.mcnettfuneralhome.com.

Donald was born on April 2, 1941 in Clovis, New Mexico to Raymond Joseph Powers and Lillian Beatrice Roberts Powers. He was raised with his siblings, Preston Powers and Nettie Powers Castleman. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1961, where he played basketball and tennis. He married Carolyn Sue Walker on August 24, 1961 in Andrews. He had worked for Union Oil of California (Unocal) for 33 ½ years. He was a past member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a current member of the First Baptist Church. Donald loved to spend time with his family, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors, camping, and traveling in his RV. He collected fishing lures and loved football and the Dallas Cowboys. Donald was straight forward, and you knew how he felt after visiting with him. He never expressed his emotions to his family and friends, but deep down he truly loved them and loved to give them a hard time along the way.

Donald is survived by his wife, Sue Powers of Andrews, 1 son, Ray and wife MyLissa Powers of Andrews, 1 daughter, Teresa Powers of Levelland, 3 grandchildren, Mandy Harris and fiancée, Joshua Taylor, Devin Powers, and Rosalyn and John Beamish, and 5 great grandchildren, Tyler Wayne Harris, Amanda Elizabeth Harris, Dakota Dylan Beamish, Dustin Allen Beamish, and Katy Ann Beamish. Don was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department, 105 Commerce Drive, Andrews, Texas 79714.
