Joyce B. Zap, 84, of Andrews passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at a graveside service at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in the Andrews West Cemetery with Rev. Tracy Spencer-Brown, Pastor of Andrews Presbyterian Church, officiating. Services are under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home in Andrews. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 AM – 9 PM, and the family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Joyce was born on March 1, 1933 in Oak Park, Illinois to Edmund August Rude and Marie Catherine Bromm Rude. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Morton High School in 1950 and had attended Morton Junior College. She met Robert “Bob” Zap in their church youth group in 1951, and they were married on July 21, 1951. She was Bob’s right hand and supported him while he was in Seminary. Following his graduation, they began a long mission of serving God. Bob’s first position was as Pastor of the Reformed Church in Williamson, New York. In 1963, they moved to the Reformed Church Mission on the Mescalero Apache Reservation in New Mexico. They ended their mission journey at the Andrews Presbyterian Church in Andrews, where they served from 1967 to Bob’s retirement in 1994. For 21 years they also served at the First Christian Church in Andrews.

Joyce was very active in the community of Andrews and supported her husband as he served as Mayor for many years. She had served as an advocate for CASA; held many positions with missions for the Presbytery; volunteered at the Literacy Program, Andrews County Library, Friends of the Andrews County Library, Neighborhood Chairperson for Girl Scouts of America, PRMC Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Headstart, director of the Andrews Presbyterian Preschool, and was involved with many other organizations in the community. She had received the Andrews Chamber of Commerce Pioneer Award along her husband, Bob, in 2006.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on February 15, 2014, and sister in law, Jo Rude in 2016.

Joyce is survived by her 7 children, Elizabeth Stottlemyre and husband, Danny, of Andrews, Patrice Zap of Kingdom City, Missouri, Stephen Zap and wife, Joanne, of Rolla, Missouri, Greg Zap and wife, Susan, of Austin, Sylvia Zap of San Angelo, John E. Zap and wife, Sara, of Andrews, and Lisa Guy and husband, Scott, of Big Spring, 1 brother, Ed Rude of Rockwall, and 3 grandchildren, Kristen Conard and husband, Brad, of St. Charles, Missouri, John D. Zap of Andrews, and Kathryn Alchesay Zap of Andrews.
