Greta Joyce Patterson Hicks, 76, of Katy, and formerly of Andrews, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in Katy.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 10:30 AM Tuesday June 6, 2017 at Houston's First Baptist Church – Chapel, 7401 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Andrews Old Cemetery with Rev. Rick Doyle officiating. Inurnment services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Greta was born the oldest of 4 children on October 14, 1940, in Peacock, TX to H.J. & Zina Daniels Patterson. She attended Andrews schools and graduated in 1958. Following high school, she attended the University of Tulsa and achieved the top graduating senior with honors BSBA in 1972. She was employed by the IRS, Ernst & Young, and later opened her own business, Greta P. Hicks, CPA in Houston. She was a business woman and accomplished writer, well-versed in the inner-workings of the IRS, wrote many self-study continuing education books, numerous articles in both technical and business publications, and conducted live and web seminars nationally on the subject of IRS policies and procedures, and income tax laws. Greta was a member of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of CPA’s, ASWA, ASWAPCA. Despite Greta’s professional success, the proudest accomplishment in her life was her family. Her grandchildren were her pure joy, a product of her selfless devotion. She was very encouraging and loving, often traveling around the world to see them. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Ted Aaron Hicks.
She is survived by one daughter; Tina Hicks Couet and husband Ron of Katy, three grandchildren, Tori, Colten, and Shawn, two sisters; Wanda Snow and husband Willard of Andrews, and Rebecca Northcutt and husband Eddie of Kerrville, one brother; Garland Patterson of Tyler, three stepchildren; Steve, Brent, and Joe Briggs and their families, and many other dear friends and relatives.
