Obituary for Inez "Shorty" Cornejo Jr.

Inez "Shorty"  Cornejo Jr.
Inez “Shorty” Cornejo, Jr., 71, of Andrews passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Andrews.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Mass at 10:00 AM Friday, May 12, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 201 NE Avenue K, in Andrews with Rev. Joseph Ogbonna, officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery. Rosary services will be recited at 7:00 PM Thursday at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews. Shorty was born on February 15, 1946 in Devine, Texas to Inez Cornejo, Sr. and Isabel Munoz Cornejo. He was raised in Andrews and graduated from Andrews High School in 1964. He married Gloria Lopez on January 25, 1965 in Sanderson. He had worked for Carter Moore Construction as a mechanic. He had worked as a mechanic and plant operator for Phillips Petroleum (Duke Energy) for 28 years, and retired in 2000. He had coached the Pirates in Little League Baseball, boxing at the Boys Club, and loved watching youth softball, but especially Andrews High School Lady Mustang Softball. He loved to go deer hunting, woodworking and making benches for his family, WWF Wrestling, and barbequing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Toe Cornejo, and 2 sisters, Paulina Gonzales and Odie Maltos.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Gloria Cornejo of Andrews, 2 sons, Floyd Zeke Cornejo and Inez Kelly Cornejo and wife, Myra, of Andrews; 3 daughters, Cheryl Godines and husband, Fred, Jaurene Martintez and husband, Felix, and Karen Cornejo and husband, Billy Williams, all of Andrews; 4 brothers, Richard Cornejo, Jesse Cornejo and wife, Mary Lou, Ernest Cornejo and wife, Oco, and Ruben Cornejo and wife, Debe, all of Andrews; 2 sisters, Mary Lopez and husband, Al, and Tina Calderon and husband, Guillermo, both of Andrews; grandson that Shorty and Gloria raise, Michael Cornejo, of Andrews; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; his Labrador dog, Gus; his cats, Ringo and Midnight; and his favorite neighborhood dog, Smokey.
