Amanda Odean Gilchrest, 92, of Andrews passed away on Friday, January 13th, 2017 in Andrews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 at the McNett Funeral Home Chapel, 705 North Main Street, in Andrews with Leslie Boone of the Andrews Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 - 7 pm at the funeral home. Amanda was born on September 5th, 1924 in Comanche County, Texas to William Everett Wilson and Amanda Evelyn Bellamy. She was raised in Comanche County and graduated from Duster High School. She married Amos Alex Gilchrest on June 19th, 1943 in Duster, Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1956 from Pecos. She was a homemaker and a rancher's wife, and she enjoyed cooking for the cowboys when they lived on the Hill Ranch in Andrews County and the Doodle Bug Ranch in Upton County. She loved to spend time with all her family, was an arrowhead hunter, loved to go to garage sales, loved to garden, loved to listen to her brother Doyle play music, could out walk any of her grandchildren, and had at one time a cherished pet deer named Skeeter. She was a member of the Andrews Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 17, 2000, her parents, 5 sisters, and 4 brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Fonda Gilchrest of Andrews, 2 sons, Ronnie Gilchrest and wife, Sue, of Hobbs, NM and Wayland Gilchrest and wife, Joan, of Artesia, NM, brother, Doyle Wilson of Boulder City, NV, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
